One 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased only a few days following being falsely accused of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his parent got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a statement read to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the media, asserting her infant's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said property was not stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains generated online comments, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really were important to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had failed to contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the house because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he wanted, but refuted removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest heard that one young adult encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing received testimony from educational staff at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's parents' landline and left a voicemail saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they never got that message.

Formal Conclusion

Lead coroner told the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was freed while investigations continued."

The coroner concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to discern his purpose."
