Government Official States Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense minister has confirmed that the MoD is actively examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese cars, and staff have been told to refrain from talking about secret matters in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for Defence Personnel

In a recent interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister said that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their car, to avoid having discussions at a secret classification in any kind of car, due to the growing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister replied: That is precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Security Background

The revelation follows claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

The broader defence situation highlights the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official activities, from vehicle usage to discussions practices.
