Liam Lawson was forced out of Sunday's race in Mexico City after suffering front wing damage

Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he barely escaped a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two marshals crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident happened on the third rotation when marshals were observed on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his damaged front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I came out on a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a live track track officials can be authorized to just sprint across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the situation

"Following a turn one incident, track officials was notified that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" stated the FIA

"During the third lap, track officials were alerted and made ready to access the circuit and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had made a pit stop, the orders to send personnel were canceled and a double yellow flag was raised in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what occurred subsequent to that time"
